WORLD CUP 2019
World Cup 2019 – Together Is Better
Katowice Internationals’ World Cup came back again this year for its II Edition under the slogan“Together Is Better”, taking place the days 29-30 of June in the pitch next to Stadium Śląski Chorzów. This event aims to promote social inclusion and diversity through sport and multicultural interaction in Silesia and Poland. Those are the values of our Foundation in the everyday life working, and that is what we put it practice in this two days.
The whole draw of the tournament was composed by 16 different national teams from Europe, South America, Africa and Asia. Every team was composed by internationals living not only in Katowice and Silesia, but also in some cities like Kraków or Gdánsk. There is only a strong requirement which is being born in the country you are playing for, so we have a truly and respectful competition.
The first day started with a parade of the 16 national teams to present themselves to the supporters. The pitch was divided in 4 different pitches where all the matches were being played at the same time, to make the show more exciting. Soon enough we could see some teams already getting as favourites for the Cup after some astonishing matches.
Take a look at our pictures
If there was an award for the best supporter, it was especially one country that could have won it, which is Vietnam. They had the best spirit and biggest number of fans among all teams in every single match of the competition. The games were being played, and some teams quickly got to the top position, like Portugal, Brazil, Ukraine and Egypt. Last Edition’s best teams Morocco and Tunisia and were also confirming themselves as favourites one more year to claim for the final prize. By the end of the day we got the final positions for every group, and the teams that were promoting for the next round.

Therefore, in the first group Tunisia and Saudi Arabia got the top positions. The second group was dominated by Brazil and Egypt playing great football. The third group’s best positions were for last edition’s winner Morocco and Poland. Finally, in the last group, Portugal and Ukraine playing very exciting matches were promoted to following round. The next day, the official matches for the quarter finals were Poland vs Ukraine, Tunisia vs Egypt, Brazil vs Saudi Arabia and Portugal vs Morocco. There was a huge expectation for these games as there were some of the best teams facing each other already on the pitch.
Some friendly matches were also played by the French, Italian or Vietnamese teams among many others who did not get qualified for next round but kept enjoying the party of multicultural football. Four amazing teams got qualified for the upcoming semifinals right after: Brazil vs Portugal and Ukraine vs Egypt. The supporters were having a great time in the stands of the pitch. It was especially noticeable the Ukrainian community in every match of their team. Portugal quickly became favourite for the title as they were winning their matches with a great amount of goals, and Brazil had a great competitive and cheerful attitude.
On the other hand, Egypt got surprisingly into the semifinals playing also great and now they had nothing to do but going for the victory. The first match between Brazil and Portugal was the most exciting, as both teams were clearly expected to win the cup and they didn’t disappoint. Portugal, after dominating the beginning of the game was leading the score, but after a great comeback from Brazil, the victory was finally for the south American country, giving them the possibility to play their first final, and leaving Portugal with the same experience as last Edition. The other match was tougher for both Ukraine and Egypt teams but at the end a small difference made the Eastern country reach the final deservedly.
And in the end the big final for this Edition: Brazil against Ukraine. Two different football and cultures claiming to be the best teams of the competition. It was the last match of the competition, and the stands got crowded to watch the exciting game coming up. We could listen to the anthems of the countries before the beginning, and there was a great atmosphere among all the supporters, making this event an amazing party for all people.
Football here is secondary, the most important was the communion existing among all players and all people, and that is the victory of all of us. But we enjoyed an intense and truly football match. Brazil started strong and lead the score first. Ukraine though, stayed focused and playing as a team like they were doing during the whole competition. Both teams showed a great image, but eventually Brazil kept the advantage in the score and raised the cup as champions of the Katowice Internationals World Cup 2019.
